Whale Watching

Tanzania’s Indian Ocean is home to one of the least known populations of Humpback Whales in the world. For this reason, our Zanzibar Whale Watching Safari is the perfect way to see these beautiful animals in their natural environment!

HUMPBACK WHALE SEASON

Herds of migrating Humpback Whales and their calves arrive in these warm tropical waters of Zanzibar in late July. Significantly, August is now becoming the most popular month for sightings. Humpback whales pass through these waters on their migration route between July and the end of October each year. Furthermore, during the season it is possible to see them during one of our organised Whale Watching Safaris. Also, during other boat-based activities in and around Zanzibar and Pemba.

DOLPHINS

The most commonly seen dolphins around Zanzibar include Spinner Dolphins, Rizzo’s Dolphins, Indo-Pacific Bottlenose, and Common Bottlenose Dolphins. Less frequently spotted species include Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphins, Frazer’s Dolphins, and Pan-Tropical Spotted Dolphins.

WHALE AWARE POLICY

In conclusion, our policy here at Zanzibar Yacht Charter is to adhere to a code of conduct that minimises the disturbances and negative impact on the whales and dolphins we encounter. Furthermore, we also try to record as much data as possible during these encounters so as to help contribute to the conservation of these beautiful animals. You are very welcome onboard and please feel free to assist when it comes to gathering information whilst we are out there!
